ATP Finals: Rajeev Ram, Joe Salisbury beat 2021 Wimbledon champs for doubles title

Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury have won the ATP Finals doubles title after beating Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic in the final in Turin.

On Sunday, Ram and Salisbury defeated Mektic and Pavic 7-6 (4) 6-4 to win their first ATP Finals title as a duo.

The first break point of the match was seen in the third game, when Ram and Salisbury saved a break point to avoid going down by an early break.

Since no more break points were seen in the first set, the opener had to be resolved in a tie-break.

The two teams were tied to three points apiece after the first six points of the tie-break, before Ram and Salisbury won the next three points to take a 6-3 lead and clinch three consecutive set points.

Ram and Salisbury missed out on their first set point but realized their second to win a tight first set.

After winning a tight first set, Ram and Salisbury earned the first break of the match in the first game of the second set.

Up by a set and a break, Ram and Salisbury held on to their serve for the rest of the match to complete a two-set win.

“That’s probably up there with one of our best matches, one of our best matches as a team. I think we’re so proud of everything we’ve done this week. We’ve come through some tough situations, but we’ve stuck together the whole way. [I’m] so happy, I can’t believe we’ve achieved this,” Salisbury said.

Ram added: “I don’t know what to say. My partner played out of this world today, but I guess that’s what you’ve got to do and that’s why he’s one of the best around. He saves his best for the biggest moments. I’m so proud of us a team for sure.”

In 2022, Ram and Salisbury won four titles.

Ram and Salisbury also won the US Open, as well as the Masters titles in Monte Carlo and Cincinnati.
