Ons Jabeur reveals advice mom gave her prior to 2022 season

World No 2 Ons Jabeur reveals her mother told her prior to the 2022 season that this time the WTA Finals should be her goal right from the start.

Jabeur, who made two Grand Slam finals this year, is set to debut at the WTA Finals at the age of 28.

There is no doubt that Jabeur deserved to be at the WTA Finals since she finished second on the Race to the WTA Finals list.

Iga Swiatek is the only player who has collected more points than Jabeur on the WTA Tour this year.

After just missing out on the WTA Finals last year, Jabeur made sure not to find herself in the same situation this year.

“I listened to my mom’s advice who told me you have to go for it from the start of the season this time,” Jabeur said, per Sportskeeda.

Jabeur on the WTA Finals: It’s like a mini Grand Slam

After finishing runner-up at the US Open, Jabeur spoke about her WTA Finals debut.

“The WTA Finals, it’s a big thing for me. It’s like a mini Grand Slam, I call it. I always dreamed to play this one. I’ve been preparing a lot for this one. Looking forward to playing in front of the fans in Texas. I’ve been doing a small pre-season before this tournament, so hopefully I’m ready for that,” Jabeur said after the US Open.

Besides making two Grand Slam finals this year, Jabeur also clinched her maiden WTA 1000 title in Madrid.

“I think the highlight of my season is just being consistent. I didn’t just have one or two tournaments, I was consistent. I was pushing myself to do better, especially with my results on clay. It’s amazing, challenging myself out there and being able to do that was really, really big for me,” Jabeur told WTA Insider.

At the WTA Finals, Jabeur was placed in Nancy Richey Group.

In the group stage, Jabeur will be battling against Jessica Pegula, Maria Sakkari, and Aryna Sabalenka.
