Roger Federer said he enjoyed his farewell at the Laver Cup and how everything went during his final tournament.
This past weekend, Team Europe suffered its first loss at the Laver Cup.
Even though Team Europe didn’t win, Federer enjoyed every moment of it.
“It is still the Laver Cup team, you know,” Federer told Eurosport. “I like those moments when you sit back finally and the pressure of the matches is gone, and you can have just a chat with another team member. You can just talk about ‘how was your weekend? What is next?’ and just be friends, actually. Iām looking forward to that. Then there will also be personal friends, they are going to come in, family, and weāll just all mix together and I can meet team members as well. You know, I like that, Iām very approachable, I believe, and for that reason, Iām looking forward to hopefully a long night!”
Federer had a great send-off
Federer revealed his plans to retire from professional tennis just a week before the start of the Laver Cup.
Early last week, Federer revealed his plans to only play one doubles match at the Laver Cup.
Also, Federer said it was a dream to finish his career by playing alongside Rafael Nadal.
Nadal granted Federer’s wish and that’s how we got a Federer and Nadal doubles match on Friday night in London.
In their second appearance as a duo at the Laver Cup, Federer and Nadal suffered a tight three-set defeat to Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.
But the result was secondary as Federer enjoyed a great send-off.
While Federer was giving a speech, Nadal also got very emotional and started crying.
Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray – the three players against whom Federer had many great battles – were present for the Swiss’ final match.
It was a great and special night for Federer.
