Kim Clijsters reacts to Nick Kyrgios winning Washington

Former world No. 1 Kim Clijsters reveals she enjoys watching Nick Kyrgios this North American hard court as she is looking forward to seeing how the Australian does at the US Open.

Kyrgios, 27, hasn’t lost a match on hard so far this summer.

Last week, Kyrgios won the singles and doubles titles in Washington.

A week earlier, Kyrgios competed only in the Atlanta doubles event and won it all with Thanasi Kokkinakis.

This past Sunday, Kyrgios defeated Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4 6-3 to lift his first ATP singles title since 2019.

“There is something about Nick Kyrgios, his energy on these American hard courts! Canā€™t wait to see him compete at the US Open,” Clijsters tweeted.

Kyrgios’ serve played a big part in his run to the Washington title as the Australian didn’t drop a single service game in five matches played.

Kyrgios is now a seven-time ATP champion and interestingly this was his first title since 2019 Washington.

After a double victory in Washington, Kyrgios couldn’t hide his happiness as he admitted that just a year ago he was in a really dark spot.

“It’s just very emotional for me,” Kyrgios said after winning the singles and doubles titles in Washington. “To see where I was at last year to now, it’s just an incredible transformation. I just came out with great energy. I knew that I had experience on my side today. I love this court, I’ve played so many good matches here, so I’m just really happy with myself. I’ve been in some really dark places. Just to be able to turn it around… There are so many people who have helped me get there, but myself, I’ve shown some serious strength to just continue and persevere and get through all those times and be able to still perform and win tournaments like this one.”
