Muguruza, 28, was scheduled to play Camila Giorgi in the San Jose first round.
Also, Muguruza was expected to make her third San Jose appearance this year.
Muguruza has had a very rough season and pulling out of San Jose is not a good start to the North American hard court swing.
However, Muguruza is still listed as a participant of the National Bank Open in Toronto, which kicks off next week.
Muguruza apologized to fans after Wimbleodn
Muguruza, who was hoping to have a big 2022 season after a strong end to 2021, is just 8-12 this season.
After suffering a shock Wimbledon first round loss to Greetje Minnen, Muguruza apologized to her fans amid a rough 2022 season.
“These last six months have been very easy. Dealing with defeats, frustration and pressure. Competing at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, tournaments that I love, with all the preparation and effort that my whole team has made, not finding my tennis has been emotionally, a very hard blow. To my followers and those who place their expectations on me, just to say that I’m sorry and I hope that the remaining six months of 2022 are more bearable and I can at least find those good feelings again,” Muguruza said in a message posted on her Twitter.
A month has passed since Muguruza’s Wimbledon exit and she is hoping to turn the page in the second half of the season.
āI hope to return with a better feeling, with better tennis and a happier face,ā Muguruza told Marca. āYou know that I do not have the best consistency. I go on streaks. Sometimes I play better and sometimes not so much, and we hope that now it will change.”
It remains to be seen if Muguruza will be able to compete in Toronto next week.
