Stefanos Tsitsipas sends congratulatory message to Novak Djokovic after Wimbledon win

Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas congratulated Novak Djokovic on a “flawless triumphant run” at Wimbledon.

In the Wimbledon final, Djokovic beat Nick Kyrgios 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (3) to win his seventh Wimbledon title.

Djokovic, 35, continued his unbeaten run at Wimbledon as he won the past four tournament editions and he hasn’t lost a match at The All England Club since 2017.

In 2020, Wimbledon was cancelled because of the pandemic.

“Always remember to congratulate the champion who sacrificed tremendously for sports. Congratulations Novak Djokovic on this flawless triumphant run! Well deserved,” Tsitsipas tweeted.

Tsitsipas’ Wimbledon run came to an end in the third round, following a four-set defeat to Kyrgios.

A week later, Djokovic won the Wimbledon title after beating the player who beat Tsitsipas in the third round.

Djokovic lifted his first Wimbledon title in 2011 and now he is just one Wimbledon title away from tying Roger Federer’s record of eight titles at The Championships.

“My first image of tennis was grass and Wimbledon. I always dreamed of coming here, just playing on this court and reaching my childhood dream of winning this trophy, and every single time it gets more and more meaningful. I am very blessed and very thankful to be standing here with the trophy. I do [love this place] and I think it loves me back. The most special tennis court in the world. No doubt when you walk out on untouched grass, everything is so directed and focused on the tennis. This tournament has the most history, the most recognition around the world. I am happy and grateful to be here.”

Meanwhile, Tsitsipas is currently resting after the grass season.

Tsitsipas, 23, hasn’t accomplished his goal of winning his maiden Grand Slam title yet.

Tsitsipas didn’t impress at the French Open and Wimbledon and he will certainly be determined to put up a big run at the US Open.
