Patrick Mouratoglou gives thoughts on GOAT race between Big Three

Coach Patrick Mouratoglou says he feels the race for the greatest player of all time is “still on” and he is looking forward to seeing how the Big Three do in the final stage of their respective careers.

Rafael Nadal, 36, won the opening two Grand Slams of the season to reach a record 22 Grand Slam titles.

This past Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic clinched his seventh title at The Championships to improve to 21 Grand Slams.

Roger Federer, who hasn’t played since 2021 Wimbledon, is the third on the list with 20 Grand Slams.

“The GOAT race is still on and it’s more exciting than ever. First, let’s start with the Majors. Novak won Wimbledon, which puts him up to 21 Major titles, one ahead of Roger’s 20 and one behind Rafa’s 22,” Mouratoglou said in a video uploaded on his Instagram. “But, when we break them down, Novak leads at the Australian Open with 9 titles, Rafa has dominated at the French Open with 14 titles and Federer still leads at Wimbledon with 8 titles along with the US Open with 5 titles. But, looking to the future what can we expect?”

Mouratoglou. Winning Grand Slams won’t get easier for the Big Three

The game has gotten two new Grand Slam champions over the last two years – Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev.

Thiem and Medvedev have managed to become Grand Slam champions, while the likes of Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlos Alcaraz and Matteo Berrettini have set their eyes on making a big Grand Slam breakthrough.

“For all the Big-3, the more time that goes by, the tougher it will become to win Majors and we have a lot of great young players catching them. Alcaraz and Sinner are going to win Slams. Medvedev already has one at the US Open and we have a couple of players who have been close such as Kyrgios, Berrettini and Tsitsipas,” Mouratoglou said.
