American tennis legend John McEnroe is absolutely enjoying Nick Kyrgios’ Wimbledon run as he says he is hoping the Australian gets it together and starts delivering on a regular basis.Ā
Kyrgios, 27, has been a man on a mission so far at Wimbledon as on Wednesday he ousted Cristian Garin 6-4 6-3 7-6 (5) to reach his first Grand Slam semifinal.
āWith all due respect to Garin, this was an incredible draw for [Nick] Kyrgios. Heās never been in a Grand Slam semi-final and heās not playing Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic here,” McEnroe said, per Tennis365. āThis is Cristian Garin, who wasnāt playing with much confidence coming into this tournament. Heās a very smart young man. Heās liked in the dressing room. He is the most talented player, I believe, in the last ten years in the menās game. He just hasnāt been able to put it together mentally for a variety of reasons.ā
McEnroe: Kyrgios is an incredible talent
When Kyrgios arrived to Wimbledon, he said he had made some top-10 players look “pretty ordinary” this year.Ā
Now, nearly two weeks later, Kyrgios’ has backed his words by reaching the Wimbledon semifinal.Ā
“He needs to go out there, give it your all and chips will fall where they may,ā McEnroe added. āHeās not been able to do that consistently. Heās out having a beer, he doesnāt want to train and that will affect your results in tournaments. We have been begging him to get it right because this guy moves the needle big time. Heās so good for the game. Heās got five or six different ways to blow off steam. I know about that as Iāve been through it myself. The bottom line is, that when he competes he is an incredible talent.ā
In the Wimbledon semifinal, Kyrgios was scheduled to play Rafael Nadal.Ā
Unfortunately for tennis fans who were looking forward to the match, Nadal was forced to retire due to an abdominal injury.
