Anett Kontaveit won her second-round match at the Hamburg European Open on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals. The Estonian, the tournament top seed won 6-3, 6-2 against Rebecca Peterson in 91 minutes.
Kontaveit won 69% of her first-serve points and 50% of her second-serve points. She also won 59% points on return on Petersonās second serve. The 26-year-old saved four of the five break points and converted three of the six break points she had on the Swedeās serve.
In the quarter-finals, Kontaveit will play eighth seed Andrea Petkovic. The German had previously reached the quarters on Tuesday.
Hamburg European Open: Bernarda Pera extends her streak of wins
Meanwhile, fortunes differed for the two players who reached the finals of the Hungarian Grand Prix last week, in Budapest. Bernarda Pera, who won the title last week, posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Joanne Zuger.
The American 78% of her first-serve points and hit seven aces in the match. She also saved all four break points she faced while converting five of the eight break points on the Swiss qualifierās serve.
On the other hand, fourth seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich beat Aleksandra Krunic, who lost to Pera last week. Sasnovich needed an hour and 28 minutes to post a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Serbian. Sasnovich won 67% of her first-serve points and secured six breaks on Krunicās serve. In turn, she conceded her serve twice in the match.
In the quarter-finals, Pera will take on Katerina Siniakova at the bottom of the draw. Sasnovich will play seventh-seeded Maryna Zanevska. The Belgian beat Romaniaās Alexandra Cadantu-Ignatik 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 31 minutes.
Lastly, Anastasia Potapova also clinched a spot in the quarters of the Hamburg European Open. Potapova came through her round-of-16 clash against Argentinaās Maria Carle 6-1, 6-4 in an hour and 24 minutes. Potapova will take on Barbora Krejcikova next.
