Alexander Zverev jokes he has ‘score to settle’ with Dominic Thiem

World No. 2 Alexander Zverev reveals he is keeping a good relationship with Dominic Thiem and jokingly remarked she would like to get a revenge against the Austrian.

At the US Open in 2020, Zverev reached his first and lone Grand Slam final.

In the final, Zverev had the full control as he was up by two sets against Thiem before the Austrian stormed back to win 2-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-6 (6).

Zverev tore several ligaments in his ankle at this past French Open and he has been out since.

On the other side, Thiem was out for 10 months due to a wrist injury before returning to action in late March.

“I get on very well with Dominic Thiem and we are always in contact. We both want to find our top form again because I still have a score to settle from our last Grand Slam match,” Zverev told Eurosport.

Zverev on his recovery process

The ankle injury Zverev sustained at the French Open forced the German to skip the entire grass season, including Wimbledon.

“The days are very long,ā€ Zverev admittd. ā€œYou start very early and finish in the evening. We do a lot of exercises, there are always new ones that are added permanently. The foot is treated, mobility is worked out, strength and stability are rebuilt. In some cases, normal walking and running are re-learned. I do sprint exercises in the water, training sessions on the treadmill and bicycle.”

Zverev isn’t yet ready to return to action but he hasn’t given up on the possibility of playing at the US Open.

Zverev made back-to-back deep runs at the US Open in the last two years so it shouldn’t be a surprise that he badly wants to compete at the tournament.

The US Open starts on August 29 and it remains to be seen if Zverev will be ready for the last Grand Slam tournament of the year.
