Triple GS winner to finish career after Rafael Nadal RG triumph

Shortly after Rafael Nadal won his 14th Roland Garros title, three-time Grand Slam winner Horia Tecau will play the final match of his career in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, during the annual Sports Festival on 10th June. The demonstrative match is meant to celebrate his tennis achievements and make the crowds watch his tennis skills one more time.

Romanian Horia Tecau will be joined by compatriots Simona Halep (alongside her coach Patrick Mouratoglou) and former world number 13 Andrei Pavel.

“Are you ready?! We team up and get back on the field! This time not for trophies or medals, but for us and for you. See you in June at Sports Festival, in Cluj-Napoca. We will celebrate our passion for tennis together,” said Simona Halep.

Also, Horia’s former doubles partner Robert Lindstedt and mixed doubles partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands will also be present.

“June 10 will be a special day for Cluj, Romania, because then we will celebrate Horia Tecău at the Sports Festival. I think we should all be present, for that I will also participate. See you there!” said Robert Lindstedt.

Unfortunately, none of the players alongside who Horia Tecau won his Grand Slams titles (Wimbledon, US Open, and Australian Open) will be participating in the demo match.

What is Sports Festival

Sports Festival is the largest multi-sport event in Romania and the place where sports legends sit near tomorrow’s champions and today’s fans, reads the event’s description.

The festival is held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, the city that also hosts the famous Untold festival, which will take place at the beginning of August.

During Sports Festival’s 2019 edition, the demo match of that year had underhand serves, Hantuchova and Simona dancing on the court, Halep playing against her former coach – Darren Cahill -, players entering the arena on tricycles and returning high speed serves from the stands were just a few of the highlights that happened during the exhibition match between Team World and Team Romania.
