Eurosport tennis expert Barbara Schett says Andy Murray must he feeling well about his Wimbledon chances as she believes the Briton could definitely do well at The All England Club this year.
Murray, 35, is a two-time Wimbledon champion but he hasn’t had a deep run at The Championships since reaching the quarterfinal at the tournament in 2017.
This grass season, Murray reached the semifinal at the Surbiton Challenger and ended runner-up in Stuttgart.
In the Stuttgart final, Murray sustained an abdominal strain and the injury was too difficult to overcome as he lost to Matteo Berrettini in three sets.
“I mean he must love coming into this year’s Wimbledon,” Schett said on Eurosport. “He’s won the title a couple of times. He’s played some tremendous tennis in Stuttgart where he’s reached the final. The only question mark is not about the tennis and the way he performs, it’s about his body. He’s had this abdominal injury, hopefully he’s going to be 100%.”
Schett: Murray can beat anybody on grass
In Stuttgart, Murray defeated Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Now, Murray will be hoping to clinch some big wins at Wimbledon.
“Andy Murray is a player who can beat anybody on the grass court,” Schett added. “He’s beaten [Stefanos] Tsitsipas, heās beaten [Nick] Kyrgios, two favourites to win the title, it’s just a matter of the course of over two weeks if he can physically sustain it but he’s ready. He wants to do some major damage, he knows to win the title is a big task, he’s got two under his belt, he won the Olympic gold here as well. So I think he’s just gonna soak in that whole experience once again, the competition out there on centre court and the support of his home crowd so he’s going to love life and just make the most of it.”
In the Wimbledon first round, Murray faces Australian James Duckworth.
Murray has a 2-0 head-to-head versus Duckworth and is the favorite to beat the Australian at Wimbledon.
