Kontaveit, 26, was scheduled to kick off her grass season this week in Berlin but she pulled out of the event.Â
Now, Kontaveit has also withdrawn from Eastbourne, leaving herself without a match played on grass ahead of Wimbledon.Â
“I still need to recover and take care of my health after my infection to Covid recently. I didn’t feel good on court lately so I prefer not to take any risk and come back when I will be at 100 per cent,” Kontaveit said, per James Gray.

No fourth Eastbourne appearance for KontaveitÂ
Last year, Kontaveit achieved her best Eastbourne result, when she made the final before losing to Jelena Ostapenko.Â
Unfortunately, tennis fans in Eastbourne won’t have a chance to watch Kontaveit in action this year.Â
Kontaveit rose to a career-high ranking of No. 2 after the French Open but the past few months haven’t been easy for her.Â
Kontaveit, who suffered her third consecutive defeat after losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in the French Open first round, split with coach Dmitry Tursunov earlier this month.Â
“I’d like to announce that Anett and I will not continue the partnership. I would like to thank Anett for the opportunity, congratulate on a career-high ranking and wish her best of luck onward. Feel proud of the work I put in and (I’m) a bit sad but sometimes good things must come to an end. Thank you once again and best of luck,” Tursunov said in a message posted on his social media.
At Wimbledon, Kontaveit has made the third round three times.
Last year, Kontaveit didn’t enjoy an impressive Wimbledon campaign as she was beaten by Marketa Vondrousova in the first round.Â
It remains to be seen how will Kontaveit do at Wimbledon to this year, if she does play at the tournament.Â
