German tennis star Alexander Zverev has announced that the initial prognosis suggests that he has torn several ligaments in his right ankle.
On Friday, Zverev took on Rafael Nadal in the French Open semifinal.
In the 12th game of the second set, Zverev rolled his ankle and went down badly injured.
Zverev started crying in pain and Nadal approached him immediately to check on him.
The crowd went silent as it was evident that the match was over.
A few minutes later, Zverev retired the match and it was just an unfortunate end to what seemed to be an epic semifinal in the making.
Zverev: Seems like I have torn several ligaments in my ankle
“Hey guys! I am now on my way back home. Based on the first medical checks, it looks like I have torn several lateral ligaments in my right foot. I will be flying to Germany on Monday to make further examinations and to determine the best and quickest way for me to recover. I want to thank everyone all over the world for the kind messages that I have received since yesterday. Your support means a lot to me right now! And many thanks to my friends from @goodwill_private_aviation for taking such good care of me in the given circumstances. I will try to keep you updated as much as possible on further developments. See you next time @rolandgarros!” Zverev wrote on Instagram.

In Paris, Zverev underlined that he is 25 years old and that he is at the stage of his career when he is expecting himself to win the biggest titles.
In the French Open quarterfinal, Zverev defeated Carlos Alcaraz and he was aiming to claim another big win versus Nadal.
Unfortunately for Zverev, he wasn’t able to finish his French Open semifinal match.
It remains to be seen when will Zverev be able to return to action.
