Tanysha Dissanayake housebound for 300 days because of virus complications

British tennis player Tanysha Dissanayake opened up in an Instagram post, describing her battle with COVID that has left her housebound for 300 days now.

Dissanayake, 20, admitted the past 10 months have been extremely difficult for her as she described those 300 days as “not living, just existing.”

“300 days ago I went to bed unaware of what lay ahead of me,” Dissanayake started in her Instagram message.

“300 days of being housebound. 300 days of choosing between walking and talking. 300 days of being unable to read. 300 days of not playing the sport I love. 300 days of social isolation. 300 days of not living, just existing. 300 days of my life lost.

“Sometimes it feels like this will never end and I’m in it for the long run. I look back at old photos and miss everything about my ‘old life.’ I look forward to the day when this all will be a distant memory. I’ll be able to live my life again! I’ll be able to look back at how far I’ve come and be proud! I know that I may never be as fit and healthy as I once was but that’s the day that keeps me going.”

Dissanayake left without a proper treatment

What makes the whole story more sad is the fact that Dissanayake has been left to pretty much battle it all alone.

“I’m sharing my story to raise awareness for this invisible illness. over 1.7 million people in the UK are suffering with long covid. 1.7 million people left to watch their life go by with no treatment to help. This illness is out of my control but one thing I can do is spread awareness hoping that more research can be done and we can all get our lives back!” Dissanayake captioned her Instagram post.

“Tough times make tougher people.”
