Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa made a dominant start to her French Open campaign but after the match insisted only a win or loss at the end of the day counts.
Badosa was absolutely brilliant in her Roland Garros opened as she destroyed French wildcard Fiona Ferro 6-2 6-0.
Badosa made a quick start to the match, breaking Ferro in the first and fifth games to take a comfortable 4-1 lead.
In the eighth game, Badosa routinely served out for the first set.
After easily winning the first set, Badosa was even more dominant in the second set as she bageled Ferro to complete a straight-set win.
Badosa didn’t face a single break during the match and she needed just over 50 minutes for the victory.
“For me, it’s not important for me to win with 50 minutes or three hours. Every minute on court counts, and every win counts, and it helps you build your confidence again. I think that’s the key of my match today,” Badosa said, per the WTA website.
Badosa: I was nervous at the start of the match
Badosa, who is among top favorites for the French Open title, admitted she was nervous and stressed at the start of the match.
However, she was glad that she was able to put the pressure behind her and clinch a comfortable victory.
“Every match helps. Every minute on court helps,” Badosa said. “I think her game helped me, as well, because I could play quite a long rally, so I could feel myself there.
“I’m happy that nobody noticed how nervous I was on court … I’m happy that I managed the nerves pretty well. At the beginning I was very nervous, to be honest. I was moving a little bit slow, and I needed a few games to get used to all the situation, but I’m happy that I managed that very well.”
Badosa plays Kaja Juvan next.
