World No. 1 Iga Swiatek acknowledged the greatness of the Big Three and admitted she would love to show their type of consistency.
Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are considered as the three greatest players in tennis history.
Federer hasn’t played much over the last two years but Nadal and Djokovic are still going strong and winning Grand Slams.
Swiatek, 20, is the new face of women’s tennis.
Swiatek has won her last 25 matches and she is bidding to win her fifth consecutive title in Rome this week.
“I feel like the big three have shown so much consistency, that this is the kind of thing I would like to have. I know it’s little bit different in women’s tennis. For sure they’re, like, really good role models,” Swiatek said.
Swiatek hopes to emulate the consistency of the Big Three
Swiatek acknowledged that it is impossible for a WTA player to emulate the technique or physicality of the Big Three.
However, she noted that consistency is something she could potentially emulate and that’s what she is hoping to do.
“Yeah, I think from the technique or physicality, it’s pretty hard to take something because it’s obvious that we are not as strong as men in terms of physicality. But I always said that I wanted to play topspin because I watched Rafa on TV playing topspin. At one point you can be inspired by technique or some stuff. I would say the consistency is the thing that I’m looking up to mostly,” Swiatek added.
Swiatek has become a dominant force on the WTA Tour but she remains focused on her game and trying to find ways to further improve her game.
“But honestly I’ve been repeating myself, just focusing on my things that I want to improve but also on my strength. I think it’s going to give me a lot of confidence in any match, so I’m going to keep doing that,” Swiatek noted.
