Canadian tennis star Felix Auger-Aliassime is secretly hoping to make a deep French Open run and potentially win his first Grand Slam title.
Clay isn’t Auger-Aliassime’s top surface but he remains hopeful he could do extremely well at the French Open.
Last year, Auger-Aliassime reached the Wimbledon quarterfinal before making his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open.
Earlier this year at the Australian Open, Auger-Aliassime reached the quarterfinal.
Auger-Aliassime is definitely capable of making a deep Grand Slam run so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see him confident ahead of the French Open.
Auger-Aliassime: I think I have the level required to do well
“I like to count myself among the players who can give themselves a chance to win, with Zverev, and other top 10 players who play very well too. I hope it will show in my results, as I have shown in other Grand Slams and in the last two tournaments I played on clay. Compared to the opponents I face and hang on to, I feel that my level of tennis doesn’t need to be much stronger to win a Grand Slam. Afterwards, the difficulty is to be consistent over the seven matches, to be physically and mentally well to beat high quality opponents. I don’t think I’m physically, mentally or tennis-limited to win a Grand Slam,” Auger-Aliassime said, per We Love Tennis.
World No. 9 Auger-Aliassime clinched his first French Open victory after beating Juan Pablo Varillas in the first round on Sunday.
In 2020, Auger-Aliassime suffered a first round defeat to Yoshihito Nishioka in the French Open first round.
Last year, Auger-Aliassime was stunned by Andreas Seppi in the first round.
Now, Auger-Aliassime has finally won his first match at Roland Garros.
It remains to be seen how far can Auger-Aliassime go at Roland Garros this year.
