Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep feels the competition on the WTA Tour is wide open as she doesn’t think we will see a Serena Williams like domination from someone.Ā
Last year, four different players won Grand Slams on the WTA Tour.Ā
Naomi Osaka won the Australian Open, Barbora Krejcikova made it all the way at the French Open, Ashleigh Barty lifted her first Wimbledon title and Emma Raducanu made tennis history at the US Open when she became a first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam.Ā
āI think there will not be anyone as Serena to dominate the WTA Tour,ā Halep exclusively told Tennis Majors. āI feel like itās very open and I always said this, that everyone can win a tournament she is playing, so you never know who is going to be the winner. The top 10 is super open.ā
Halep hopes for a big clay season
It it not a secret that Halep enjoys playing on clay and she is certainly hoping to make some strong results on the dirt in the upcoming period.Ā
Halep, 30, became a Grand Slam champion after winning the French Open in 2018.Ā
āI love clay, so thatās why I probably I was able to win many tournaments on clay [seven out of her 23 wins, including two in Madrid and one in Rome] and also the French Open [in 2018]. I won Wimbledon [in 2019], which I never expected because itās super fast and you need the serve. So I donāt have a big serve there. But my game was really good in that year and it was just perfect for the surface and I was very confident,” Halep explained.Ā
Halep added renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou to her team.Ā
Halep believes she has what it takes to win more major events and she feels Mouratoglou can help her in her pursuit of more success.Ā
