Former world No. 1 Serena Williams has indicated she plans to return to action during the grass season as she targets to play Wimbledon.
Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, hasn’t played since retiring her Wimbledon first round match last year.Ā
Williams has been out for nearly a year but her latest comments are a strong indication that her pro career isn’t over yet.Ā
āWeāve been talking about my comeback,” Williams said on her Instagram Story, while appearing alongside NFL superstar Aaron Rodgers. “Heās been hyping me up and getting me ready for Wimbledon. Canāt wait. Exciting.ā

Williams gave her coach permission to work with Simona Halep
On Thursday, coach Patrick Mouratoglou announced he is the new full-time coach of Halep.Ā
In his statement, Mouratoglou revealed he had a conversation with Williams before accepting Halep’s offer.Ā
Even though Mouratoglou is now the full-time coach of Halep, he didn’t rule out the possibility of working with Williams when she returns to the court.Ā
“Today, I’m starting a new chapter in my coaching career. I’m now the full-time coach of Simona Haleo,” Mouratoglou announced on Thursday.
“In the last eight months, I realized how much I missed coaching. It is the passion of my life, and I still feel like I have so much to give.Ā
“Simona came to the Mouratoglou Academy before Indian Wells for a training block. I swung by at a few of her practices, watched her train.
“At the end of the week, she asked me if I was available to coach her. I have the highest respect for her but it was out of the question at the time.Ā
“A few weeks later, I had a conversation with Serena, and the door opened for me, at least short term, to work with someone else.
“I will keep you updated on what’s coming soon.”
