Raducanu, 19, won’t have an easy job of doing well in her first-ever pro tournaments as some of the world’s best players are playing in Stuttgart this week, including world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
Raducanu, seeded at No. 8, was drawn to meet Storm Sanders in her Stuttgart opener.
Raducanu played her first pro clay match in Prague
On Friday, Great Britain’s Raducanu defeated Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic 7-5 7-5 in a Billie Jean King Cup match.
“This one means so much to me because it is my first match in the Billie Jean King Cup and representing the team in my first match on clay,” Raducanu said after winning her first clay match.
Raducanu clinched her first pro clay win on Friday but the following day stood no chance against Marketa Vondrousova.
Vondrousova demolished Raducanu 6-1 6-1 but it should be noted that the Briton was hampered by a blister and she couldn’t move properly.
“I have a blister on my foot, it kind of showed up after yesterday’s match and we’ve been managing it but as you saw I couldn’t really move or load either way and now it’s just about trying to get it better as soon as possible,” Raducanu explained.
“It completely stopped me from moving, it’s tough to not even be able to chase the ball, even if the ball came around me I was struggling to get my feet out of the way and moving to my backhand, it was compromising every shot,”
It remains to be seen if Raducanu will be affected by her recent physical issue in Stuttgart.
