The young British player Emma Raducanu has archived the season on concrete and is ready to face the first adventures on clay. The winner of the US Open 2021 gave an interview to the organizers of the Stuttgart tournament, her next competition.
She said: “I still remember getting completely bathed in the fountains in front of the Cologne cathedral, after winning a junior tournament in Duren and then an ad Hamburg in 2017. We were visiting the Rhine valley and the Moselle valley. So I have good memories in Germany. I am thrilled to play my first WTA tournament on clay. It’s good that it’s the Porsche Grand Prix of Tennis.
I’ve been following the event since I was young and for me it has always been the event where the winner gets a Porsche. It was something unique and it stuck in my mind. Since joining the tour, I have heard a lot of positive things about this competition. I know it’s one of the most popular tournaments on the calendar, and that’s not surprising: who doesn’t want to win a Porsche?”
Emma Raducanu and her passion for cars
The motivation of the young Englishwoman is to beat the best players: “It will be a challenge, but I’ve already won games against some of these athletes in my short touring experience. It would be very important to add more, especially on clay where I have little experience as there are no courses in the UK. This season, with the French Open at its peak, it will be an interesting challenge, I can’t wait,” she added.
About her passion for motors: “I started very early, when I was a 6 year old girl, going karting. This made me feel different from other boys and girls in a very special and positive way. I had a lot of fun when I started being good and having faith in myself. Motocross was later more challenging than karting. But it was also a lot of fun because, let’s face it, what kid doesn’t like getting dirty in the mud?” She concluded.
