The 2022 season looked promising for Daniil Medvedev. Despite the shocking defeat in the Australian Open final against Rafael Nadal, the Russian experienced the thrill of becoming the new world number 1, albeit for a short time, thanks to the results obtained on hard courts.
The last one who was keen on him was in Acapulco, where in the semifinals he crashed for the second time in front of the Majorcan. At the beginning of April, then, the announcement: stop of 1-2 months for the correction of a hernia.
A surgery that took him out of the game for the start of the season on red, forcing him to officially forfeit the Masters 1000 in Madrid and Rome. Yesterday, however, the good news for him with the return to the field to restart with training at the prestigious Mouratoglou Academy.
At this point, however, the date of his return to the circuit is highly uncertain. The renunciation of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia would put Medvedev in the condition of going to Paris without ever having walked the clay, a surface that puts him anything but at ease: the goal, therefore, will be to skip the season entirely on clay-courts?
